Achievements

USAN Project - All Systems Go
Diamould has been awarded the contract, by Cameron, to supply the Xmas Tree to Tubing Hanger Electrical Connector Systems for the TOTAL USAN field offshore Nigeria. This follows successful supply, installation and completion (ongoing) programs on the AKPO field – also Nigeria.

Diamould will once again be utilising the Seawell 02 Dual Contact, Single Pin connector system on these Xmas Trees, several of which will be dual system trees. In line with this award and the installation work that comes with it, Diamould is actively increasing the level of West Africa experienced offshore operatives to ensure that the very high level of On-site (be it shore, boat or rig) Technical Support is enhanced rather than diminished by this project which, to date, stands as the biggest contract Diamould has undertaken.

We are delighted to further our working relationships with both companies and this award cements Diamould’s presence in this arena.

First 'long-neck' Seapower connectors deployed in North Sea
In June 2008 Diamould won the order to supply 3 dual ESP Connector Systems for the Talisman North Auk project in the North Sea. Building on proven Seapower technology, these systems will be 8kv (220A) ‘long neck’ Tubing Hanger penetrator variations and will be installed in FMC trees for deployment Q2/Q3 2009. Together with the Oilexco Shelley project this will be the first installation in the North Sea of Seapower ‘long neck’ TH penetrator connectors following the successful world’s first deployment in the Jubarte 2 field (offshore Brazil) Q2 2007.

Seawell-05 development for new sub-sea tree manufacturer
March 2008 saw Diamould awarded the contract for the new development, qualification and supply of wet mateable subsea tree connectors for Azura Energy Systems. Building on proven technology the Azura ‘Seawell 05’ development will provide long term reliable electrical connection, providing instrumentation to wellhead equipment between the subsea tree and tubing hanger. This will be the first collaboration between Diamould and Azura Energy Systems; an independent subsea tree manufacturer based in Houston TX. The partnership adds to Diamould’s presence in the Gulf of Mexico and further strengthens an already robust client list.

BAB MOBO Project

Diamould have been awarded the connector supply to the BAB MOBO Project for Aker Kvaerner do Brazil & Petrobras BR. Diamould will be supplying the connectors for 8 Power systems from umbilical, subsea & tree connections, this continues the success of Seapower 02 8kV – 220A technology.

SUBSEA HIGH POWER AND MONITORING SYSTEMS DEPLOYED IN THE JUBARTE 2&6 FIELDS

POWER SYSTEMS

Seapower 02™ - Wet-mateable Power Connector Designed for high-horsepower subsea ESP applications, the SeaPower 02 connector is the industry’s first 8 kv - 230 A subsea power connector. The innovative connector design incorporates an oil-filled, pressure-balancing technique to protect both pin and socket contacts while the connector ends are unmated. By eliminating the need for dummy connectors, this technology helps reduce deployment time and cost as well as improving connector reliability.

The product range includes ROV long neck tree-to-tubing hanger (TH) connectors and TH Receptacle utilising both dry and wet-mate connections to terminate to downhole ESP cable.

X-over unit - 8.7kv 230A power umbilical crossover unit.

Sealine - Subsea power and instrumentation hose to provide jumpers to the full working system.

All the above systems are rated at 3000 meters seawater depth and 5000 psi well head pressure.

MONITORING SYSTEMS

Seaswitch™ - Wet-mateable Connector
The Seaswitch wet-mate connector is a 7 pin, 1.5 kv -10 A connector for subsea instrumentation applications down to 3000 meters water depth. This ROV deployed connector also incorporates the unique oil-filled, pressure-balancing technique to protect both pin and socket contacts while the connector ends are unmated. By eliminating the need for dummy connectors, this technology helps reduce deployment time and cost as well as improving connector reliability. Connector reliability is further enhanced by the crimp termination and unique latching mechanism design features. The Seaswitch connector is also available in 3 and 12 pin versions.

Commercially Available Products for 2006

Seawell 01™ - Wet-mateable Connector
The Seawell 01 wet-mate connector is a single pin, 1 kv - 5 A connector for instrumentation applications. Building on the successful design of Seawell 02 and 03 connectors for tree-to-tubing hanger applications, the Seawell 01 connector has a 0.075 in diameter and is rated to 10,000 psi, making it suitable for most downhole instrumentation requirements. The Seawell 01 connector design incorporates protected contacts on plug and receptacle, crimp termination, and a stack up tolerance of ± 0.2 in all which help reduce deployment time and improve system reliability.

Sealtite Ex'd' - Wellhead Outlet Connector
The Sealtite wellhead outlet (WHO) connector is single pin connector for permanent downhole instrumentation cable penetration through the wellhead equipment. Rated Ex'd' and for 5000 psi, this WHO is suited to land-based well applications. The design incorporates crimp termination and dual metal seals, which reduce installation time and improve connector reliability.

Intelligent Completion Systems for Petrobras

Deployed in Campos Basin injector wells - 2003 Both the Baker Oil Tools’ InCharge™ Intelligent Well System and the WellDynamics’ SCRAMS® system have used Diamould’s  electrical connector technology Seawell-02™, to provide a single pin dual contact (2-way) electrical connection within non-oriented (concentric) connector housings, between the Valve Block/THRT and Tubing Hanger. The specifically designed Seawell™ range of wet-mateable electrical connectors has been developed for intelligent completions and downhole instrumentation systems, offering long-term reliability in the downhole environment, resistance to sour well corrosion attack, and the capability for repeated matings without loss of operational integrity.  With almost 70% of Brazilian oil & gas reserves beneath “deepwater” (300-1000m) or “ultra-deepwater” (>1,000m), the successful exploitation of these reserves depends on technological advances to allow them to be safely and economically extracted in an environmentally acceptable manner. Petrobras has been a world leader in facilitating the development and implementation of enabling technologies for deepwater applications, recognising, in particular, the potential of intelligent completion techniques as a means by which previous limitations could be addressed and reservoir management improved. In August 2003, Baker Oil Tools successfully installed their InCharge all electric Intelligent Well System in Well 8-MLS-67HA-RJS of the Marlim Sul field.  A month later, WellDynamics successfully installed their SmartWell® technology in Well 8-RO-35-RJS of the Roncador field.  Currently, both systems are monitoring real-time measurements of downhole pressure, temperature and flow in both the tubing and annulus.  These systems allow the Operator to remotely manage the water injection volume per zone, in order to control the water front, thereby maximising oil productivity.
Diamould’s innovative design skills, expertise in advanced materials and proven track record for delivering massive advances in connector technology, made them the partner-of-choice to provide enabling technology for both the Marlim Sul & Roncador intelligent completion projects.

The Diamould Seawell-02™ wet-mateable connector can be engineered to interface with most Tree and Tubing Hanger profiles.  The Seawell-02 Plug connector incorporates an automatic stack-up system, which absorbs wellhead axial tolerances without compromising the electrical and mechanical performance of the wet-mate system.  The connector is oil-filled, pressure balanced and incorporates a unique spring energised contact module arrangement actuated on two fixed sliding contact pins, which provides up to +/- 0.5” vertical compliance.  The Plug nose floats within the connector housing on three radial centralising springs to provide compliance for angular and radial misalignment conditions.

The Seawell-02 Receptacle connector features a telescopic grease filled wiper, which protects the male electrical pin contact when the Plug and Receptacle connectors are separated.  Both halves of the connector are therefore permanently protected.  The wiper assembly provides a bridging and location seal between the two connector halves during connector engagement and mating.

Self-locking and latching crimp terminals facilitate cable termination inside of the connectors (no soldering required) and provide excellent electrical and sealing characteristics in well conditions up to 10kpsi at 121ºC.

Elsewhere, Diamould is developing wet and dry-mateable connector technology for similar systems, including Schlumberger’s electrically-operated downhole flow-control devices for Reservoir Monitoring and Controls.
